Five useful things to do while you are stuck at home:

  1. Find your will. Take a look at it. Is this the original? It should have original signatures of 2 witnesses and a raised notary seal. If you can’t find the original, write a letter to your lawyer and ask to have it sent to you.
  2. Find your power of attorney. You don’t need an original of this, but take a look at the date. While you are at it, read it. Who is named as your agent? What do they have to do in order to act on your behalf. How old is the power?
  3. Find your health care proxy. This also does not have to be an original. Are the people named there the people you would want making a decision for you? Does your primary care doctor have a copy? If not, send it to them.
  4. Do you have any advance directives about what kind of medical care you would want if you cannot decide for yourself? If not, consider writing such an instruction.
  5. Make an appointment to review your documents with an estate planning or elder law attorney
