The best way to avoid the cost of a nursing home, as my colleague Leannal Hammill rightly says, is not to have to go to a nursing home in the first place.  Keep active.  Stay connected.  Don't fall.  This is excellent advice.  But what if something happens that you can't control – like Alzheimer's disease, or a chronic physical illness?  Is there a way to keep your property protected?  Nothing is guaranteed, but there are ways to make it more likely that your family will be able to keep your property.  One way is long-term care insurance.  But that is not always an option.  If you have already had health problems, or if you are older, you may not be able to qualify.  Another option is an irrevocable trust.  I have designed a trust that I believe would offer substantial protection. Please get in touch with me if you are interested.
